The Trust is established "to help safeguard and preserve, for the benefit of the public, such land, buildings, objects and records that may be illustrative of, or significant to, the history of the County or which enhance an understanding of the characteristics and traditions of the County". The Trust is a Registered Charity No. 802317 The types of projects the Trust supports are as follows:-
Please look at our grants awarded pages for some typical examples Please note that the Trust does not give grants involving private property or persons and public access must be available to all funded projects. IF YOU THINK THAT WE CAN HELP YOU THEN PLEASE CONTACT THE TRUST Applying for a grant: In the first instance, write or use the form below giving details of the project. Once it has been established that the project meets the Trust's criteria for grant aid, an application form will be sent to you. At this stage it is important to provide detailed information and if possible, a photograph should accompany the application. Once the application is received it will be passed to the Project Working Group who will arrange to visit the site. This will be an opportunity for the applicant to discuss the project and the broader issues relating to it. The Project Working Group will then make a recommendation to the Trustees who will give a final decision. The Trustees meet three times a year in March, July and November, when grant awards will be made. Naturally, the Trust wishes to obtain as much publicity as possible from successful applications - either by holding a cheque handing-over ceremony or, where applicable, by creating a permanent record with one of the Trust's plaques. The Trust attaches great importance to self-help groups. The policy of the Trust is not to completely fund the project except under exceptional circumstances. In many instances the Trust acts as a "pump-primer", leading the way to encourage others to support the project. It is the applicants responsibility to oversee the project and the Trust must be informed of progress and completion. Where possible, the Trust would like to include details, including photographs in a short article for our newsletter.
