Twinkle Star Statue

This photograph shows the scene in Colchester High Street on the afternoon of Saturday 4th May 2024 after the unveiling of a statue featuring “Twinkle Star” sisters Jane (left) and Ann Taylor……..Jane being the author of the poem known throughout the world as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” written in Colchester in 1806.

From the left: Sir Bob Russell, High Steward of Colchester, who headed the campaign for the statue; the Mayor of Colchester (Councillor John Jowers); and Mandy Pratt who was the statue’s sculptor.

The unveiling was done by four pupils from North Primary School, Colchester, who had birthdays last month. The Choir from North Primary School opened the proceedings by singing the nursery rhyme…….which concluded with an estimated audience of around  400 all singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.

Essex Heritage Trust contributed towards the cost of the statue, which is “Dedicated To The Children of The World”.
